Victim Identified, Suspect Charged in Deadly Greene County Shooting Outside Dollar General

Forkland, AL – Authorities have released new details regarding a fatal shooting in Greene County, Alabama, that claimed the life of a local man and led to murder charges against another. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) confirmed that 31-year-old Boris Moody, of Forkland, was the victim in the shooting that occurred on Monday, October 6, 2025, outside a Dollar General store on U.S. Highway 43.

The incident, which has shaken the small Greene County community, remains under investigation as law enforcement works to piece together the events that led to Moody’s death and determine if further charges will be filed.

Homicide Investigation Underway

According to the official press release issued Tuesday morning by ALEA, Special Agents with the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) were called to take over the case at the request of the Forkland Police Department shortly after the incident occurred.

Investigators say Moody was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds outside the Dollar General located in the 13000 block of US-43 in Forkland. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but despite efforts to render aid, Moody was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s identity was initially withheld pending notification of next of kin, but was confirmed by authorities on Tuesday.

Suspect Identified and Charged

ALEA has identified the suspect in the case as 28-year-old Jamal Lee, a resident of Demopolis, Alabama. Lee was taken into custody shortly after the incident and has since been formally charged with murder. He is currently being held at the Greene County Jail.

Officials have not disclosed a motive at this stage of the investigation, but confirmed that more charges may be pending based on additional evidence gathered from the scene and witness accounts.

“This was a targeted and violent act,” said one law enforcement official familiar with the investigation. “While we are still in the early stages, our team is working diligently to uncover all of the facts and ensure that justice is served.”

Small Town Reeling After Tragedy

The town of Forkland, with a population just under 600, is grappling with the shock and sorrow of such a violent crime in their close-knit community. Residents described Moody as a “quiet and respectful man” who kept to himself but was well-known and well-liked in the area.

“He didn’t bother anybody,” said longtime Forkland resident Anita Freeman. “I just saw him last week. It’s hard to believe something like this could happen right here in our little town.”

Community leaders have expressed their condolences to Moody’s family and have urged residents to remain calm and trust the justice system as the investigation continues.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities have not said whether the shooting was the result of a personal dispute, gang involvement, or another circumstance. However, ALEA confirmed that the case is active and ongoing, and that all findings will be turned over to the Greene County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution once the investigation is complete.

The SBI is also reviewing surveillance footage from the store and surrounding area, interviewing witnesses, and analyzing forensic evidence to build a comprehensive timeline of the shooting.
