Tragic Shooting at Vogt-Meloon Park Claims Life of Juvenile in Orange County
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A community is reeling after a deadly shooting at a local park left a juvenile dead and another in custody following an altercation that turned violent on Thursday afternoon. The incident, which unfolded on a basketball court at Vogt-Meloon Park, has shaken residents in the Oak Ridge area and reignited concerns over youth violence and public safety in communal spaces.
The Incident
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred just before 3:00 p.m. on the basketball court located in the 800 block of W. Oak Ridge Road, where a group of young people had gathered — as they often do — for a game.
An argument reportedly escalated between two juveniles, leading to one of them producing a firearm and fatally shooting the other.
