Shooting in Santa Claus Leaves Two Deceased in Suspected Murder-Suicide

At approximately 12:17 p.m. on October 14, the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office received a distressing call from Jamie Adkins, 48, reporting that she had just shot her husband.
Emergency Response and On-Scene Investigation
In response to the call, law enforcement officers from the Santa Claus Police Department, Indiana State Police, and the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office immediately mobilized and arrived at the Adkins residence. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with Jamie Adkins, but were unsuccessful in establishing communication.
Due to the lack of response, officers proceeded to make entry into the home. Inside, they discovered John Adkins, 49, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. Jamie Adkins was also found suffering from a gunshot wound. She was promptly transported by ambulance to Owensboro Hospital in Kentucky for emergency medical treatment but tragically succumbed to her injuries.
