In Loving Memory of Thurmon Joseph
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Thurmon Joseph, age 33, who tragically lost his life to gun violence in New Orleans during the early hours of Monday, July 28, 2025. His identity was formally confirmed on Thursday, July 31, by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office.
According to reports from the New Orleans Police Department, officers responded to a call just before 2:00 a.m. in the 3500 block of General De Gaulle Drive in the Algiers neighborhood, where they found Joseph unresponsive. Paramedics confirmed that he had died at the scene.
Following a preliminary investigation, detectives determined that Joseph was originally shot in the 1300 block of Southlawn Boulevard, approximately one mile away. He was then transported—either by a third party or unknown means—to the General De Gaulle location where law enforcement first discovered his body.
A Life Cut Short
Born in 1992, Thurmon Joseph was a son, a friend, and a member of the New Orleans community. At just 33 years old, he had so much life left to live. His death comes not only as a painful shock to his loved ones, but also as a grim reminder of the violence that continues to affect neighborhoods across the city.
Though his full biography has not yet been shared publicly, those who knew Thurmon describe him as someone with a big heart, a strong presence, and a deep sense of loyalty to those he cared for. Whether through small acts of kindness or quiet strength, he left a mark on the people around him. His life, though tragically short, mattered deeply.
A Growing Crisis in Our Community
Thurmon’s death adds to a troubling pattern of gun violence in New Orleans—particularly in neighborhoods like Algiers, where community members continue to demand safety, justice, and reform. Every life lost represents more than a number in a crime report—it’s a family shattered, a future stolen, and a reminder that peace remains elusive for too many.
Local officials, including homicide detectives, have confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are asking for anyone with information about the shooting—whether from Southlawn Boulevard or General De Gaulle Drive—to come forward. Tips may be submitted anonymously through Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111 or through the NOPD’s online reporting system.
