In Loving Memory of Lakeboy Vito: Community Honors Life Cut Short

LEON COUNTY, Fla. — The Leon County community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Lakeboy Vito, a beloved son, friend, and neighbor whose life was cut tragically short in a shooting earlier this week. The Leon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) has launched an active homicide investigation following the discovery of Vito’s body inside a vehicle Tuesday evening in the 5600 block of Aenon Church Trail — a quiet, close-knit neighborhood now reeling from the shocking act of violence.

Deputies responded to the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle parked on the roadside under unusual circumstances. When deputies arrived, they discovered the lifeless body of a man later identified as Lakeboy Vito, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate efforts by emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The area was quickly secured as investigators combed the scene for evidence, canvassed nearby homes for surveillance footage, and interviewed residents who reported hearing gunshots earlier that evening. The Leon County Sheriff’s Office has not yet released details on potential suspects or motives but confirmed that the case is being treated as a homicide.

“This is a devastating loss for this family and for our community,” said Sheriff Walt McNeil in a statement released Wednesday morning. “Our detectives are working tirelessly to uncover every detail surrounding this case. We are committed to seeking justice for Mr. Vito and his loved ones.”

A Life Remembered

Friends and family describe Lakeboy Vito as a genuine, generous soul — someone who brought laughter and warmth wherever he went. Known by many in the area for his easygoing personality and willingness to help others, Vito’s sudden death has left a void that words can scarcely fill.

“He was always smiling, always showing love to people,” said Tameka Johnson, a family friend who grew up with Vito. “He didn’t deserve this. Our hearts are broken.”

Vito, who was in his early 30s, had deep roots in Leon County and was known for his passion for music, family gatherings, and community events. Loved ones say he had dreams of starting his own business and giving back to the community that helped shape him.

Community in Mourning

By Wednesday afternoon, a growing memorial of flowers, candles, and handwritten notes had begun to appear near the site on Aenon Church Trail. Neighbors gathered to comfort one another, lighting candles and sharing memories of a man who touched many lives.

“We’re hurting right now,” said Reverend Charles Graham of a nearby church. “This tragedy reminds us how precious life is and how important it is for our community to come together in times like this.”

Community leaders and local advocates are urging anyone with information to step forward. “Silence only protects the guilty,” said Graham. “If you know something, please help this family find peace.”

Investigation Ongoing

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit continues to investigate the incident and has encouraged anyone with surveillance footage, tips, or relevant information to contact LCSO at (850) 606-3300 or reach out anonymously through Big Bend Crime Stoppers at (850) 574-TIPS (8477).

As the search for answers continues, friends and family are preparing to honor Vito’s life in a memorial service planned for the coming days. Loved ones say they hope the outpouring of support and unity will help them find strength amid unimaginable grief.

“Lakeboy’s spirit will live on in all of us,” said his cousin Derrick Vito. “We won’t rest until justice is served.”

The Leon County community remains united in sorrow and solidarity — remembering Lakeboy Vito not for the tragedy that took his life, but for the love, laughter, and light he brought into the world.
