In Loving Memory of Gary Alvord
With solemn reverence and deep respect, we commemorate the life of Gary Alvord of Des Moines, Iowa, who passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, at the age of 77. Gary leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
Gary was predeceased by his beloved parents, Harry Alvord and Thelma Alvord (Bennett), and his dear brother David. He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Pam, who stood by his side through lifeโs joys and challenges. He was a proud and caring father to his daughters Jen Corkrean (Patrick) of Des Moines and Andi Laine (Jamie) of Norwalk. His greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren: Kate and Erin Corkrean, and Will, Max, and Lily Laine, who brought light and laughter into his life. Gary also leaves behind his brother, Mark Alvord of Ankeny, who shared many lifelong bonds with him.
Garyโs life was marked by his dedication to family, community, and the many friends he made along the way. Known for his warm smile, gentle spirit, and unwavering generosity, Gary was a pillar of strength and kindness. His family remembers him as a man of integrity, someone who treasured simple moments and valued deep connections above all.
Services and Celebrations
Family, friends, and all who were touched by Garyโs life gathered to honor and celebrate him. Visitation was held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 3:00 PM at the Echo Valley Country Club in Norwalk, Iowa. This was followed by a heartfelt celebration of life at 4:00 PM at the same location, where memories were shared and Garyโs remarkable spirit was warmly remembered.
A formal funeral service will take place on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines. This service will provide a final opportunity to pay tribute and say goodbye to a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
A Legacy of Love and Generosity
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to the East High School Alumni Foundation or the Lutheran Church of Hope, reflecting Garyโs lifelong commitment to education, community, and faith.
