Upon arrival, they were met with further gunshots erupting from within the home. An unidentified young boy — who had escaped to a neighbor’s house — provided crucial information: the suspect, 37-year-old Michael Lee McClellan, had shot a woman inside the home.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Citrus County authorities requested assistance. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team swiftly responded to aid in containing the scene. A tense standoff ensued, with law enforcement officers communicating continuously with McClellan to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution.

Tragic Outcome—Loss and Surrender

After hours of negotiation efforts, McClellan surrendered and was taken into custody without further violence. Inside the home, deputies discovered the lifeless body of a woman. Authorities have since confirmed her identity as Sadie Gochis.

Sheriff David Vincent offered heartfelt words on the incident’s emotional weight:

“This was an emotional and dangerous situation from the start. Our teams remained calm, focused, and worked tenaciously to prevent further loss of life. While we’re grateful the situation didn’t escalate further, we’re saddened by the tragic outcome. Our hearts go out to the family of the victim.”
