ESCAMBIA COUNTY, AL — McKenzie Mourns the Tragic Loss of 19-Year-Old Alexzander Blade Sellers Following Fatal Crash

October 13, 2025 | Escambia County, Alabama — The tight-knit community of McKenzie is grappling with immense grief following the tragic death of 19-year-old Alexzander Blade Sellers, who lost his life in a single-vehicle crash on Saturday night, October 11.

According to officials with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the fatal incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Escambia County Road 4, roughly 15 miles east of Brewton. Sellers, who was reportedly driving a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt, veered off the roadway, struck a tree, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

ALEA troopers confirmed that Sellers was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and he was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. No other individuals were involved in the accident, and investigators continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the wreck.

The crash site, a quiet rural stretch of road surrounded by dense trees and narrow shoulders, became the backdrop of heartbreak and remembrance within hours of the tragedy. Friends, classmates, and neighbors visited the scene to leave flowers, hand-written notes, and personal mementos in tribute to the young man whose life ended far too soon.

“A Young Man with a Big Heart and Big Dreams”

Alexzander, affectionately known as “Blade” to family and friends, was remembered for his magnetic personality, quick wit, and boundless generosity. Just 19 years old, he had recently graduated high school and was preparing to take the next steps in life, hoping to pursue a career that would allow him to work with his hands — a natural mechanic and problem-solver.

“Blade was one of those kids you couldn’t help but love,” said Shannon Odom, a teacher from McKenzie High School. “He had a way of lifting others up, even on his worst days. His smile could light up the entire hallway.”

Those who knew him best describe Blade as hardworking, humble, and fiercely loyal — a friend who would drop everything to help, a son who cherished his family, and a young man who still had so much life ahead of him.

“He loved old trucks, loud music, and spending time out in the country,” said his cousin Mason Sellers. “But most of all, he loved his people. He’d give you the shirt off his back.”

Blade was known for his love of the outdoors, often found fishing or riding dirt roads with friends. His social media was filled with photos of sunsets, backroads, and the people he loved most. “This world just got a whole lot darker,” read one tribute post shared widely among the McKenzie community. “#RideHighBlade”

A Community in Mourning

The tragic news of Blade’s passing has sent shockwaves through McKenzie, Escambia County, and neighboring Butler County, where many residents considered him family, whether by blood or bond.

A candlelight vigil is being planned by friends and classmates later this week at the McKenzie School football field, a place where Blade spent many Friday nights cheering for his hometown team. Attendees are encouraged to wear Blade’s favorite colors — black and royal blue — and bring candles, photos, and written memories.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been launched to help the Sellers family with funeral expenses, and community members have been delivering meals, flowers, and messages of comfort.

“This isn’t just the loss of one young man,” said Pastor Reggie Clark of McKenzie Baptist Church. “This is the loss of promise, of possibility. It reminds us all how fragile life is.”

ALEA Investigation Ongoing

Troopers with the ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the crash. No foul play is suspected at this time, but officials have reminded the public about the importance of seatbelt use and driving cautiously, especially on narrow, rural roads at night.

“This was a heartbreaking incident,” said ALEA spokesperson Sgt. Jeremy Burkett. “Our thoughts are with the Sellers family and all those affected by this loss.”

The investigation will include a full reconstruction of the crash scene and toxicology testing, standard procedure in fatal collisions. Results may take several weeks.

Honoring Blade’s Life

Funeral arrangements for Alexzander Blade Sellers are being handled by Keelson Funeral Home in Brewton. A celebration of life service is expected to be held later this week, with details to be announced publicly by the family.

In the meantime, friends and loved ones are clinging to the memories of a young life that burned bright — even if only for a short time.

“He may be gone, but Blade’s spirit lives on in all of us,” said best friend Jackson Ray. “Every time I see a lifted truck or hear a country song, I’ll think of him.”
