Deadly Shooting Under Investigation in Rural Donna, Texas; Two Found Dead on Sites Road

Donna, TX – October 15, 2025 — A quiet rural neighborhood in Hidalgo County was shaken by violence late Tuesday night after a deadly shooting left two people dead in the outskirts of Donna. Sheriff’s deputies with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office have launched a homicide investigation after an adult male and an adult female were found fatally shot at a residence in the 1200 block of Sites Road.

Authorities responded to the scene shortly after 9:00 PM following multiple reports of gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the two victims lying unresponsive near the property. Paramedics were dispatched, but both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene from apparent gunshot wounds.

The names of the victims have not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin. Investigators have not confirmed the nature of the relationship between the two deceased individuals, nor have they publicly identified any suspects.

A Rural Community on Edge

The shooting occurred in a sparsely populated area of Donna, characterized by wide-open farmland, ranch-style homes, and generally peaceful surroundings. Residents in the area said they were startled by the sudden presence of flashing lights, helicopters, and heavily armed law enforcement officers descending on the quiet stretch of Sites Road.

“Nothing like this ever happens out here,” said one nearby resident who asked to remain anonymous. “We heard the sirens and saw all the police. It was scary. You never expect something like this so close to home.”

Some neighbors reported hearing loud arguing prior to the gunshots, but few details have been confirmed as the investigation remains in its early stages.

Sheriff’s Office Releases Initial Statement

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the deaths in a brief public statement early Wednesday morning:

“On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at approximately 9:12 PM, deputies responded to a call of shots fired in the 1200 block of Sites Road in rural Donna. Upon arrival, they located two deceased individuals — an adult male and adult female — with gunshot wounds. The investigation is ongoing. More information will be released as it becomes available.”

Sheriff Eddie Guerra has not yet held a press conference but has assured the public that there is no immediate danger to the community.

“No suspects are currently in custody,” said HCSO spokesperson Sgt. Maria Castillo. “However, our investigators are working tirelessly to piece together the sequence of events. We are following leads and encourage anyone with information to come forward.”

Crime Scene Secured, Investigation Underway

Crime scene tape now surrounds the property as forensic teams work to gather evidence. Detectives are interviewing neighbors, reviewing surveillance footage from surrounding properties, and processing physical evidence from the scene.

At this time, it is not clear whether the incident was a murder-suicide, a double homicide, or if another party was involved. Investigators have not commented on whether a firearm was recovered at the scene.

Autopsies have been ordered by the Hidalgo County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

Public Asked to Assist

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information — no matter how small — to contact them directly at (956) 383-8114. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers hotline at (956) 668-TIPS (8477).

“We rely on the community’s eyes and ears,” said Sgt. Castillo. “If anyone saw or heard anything suspicious around the time of the incident, or has surveillance footage that could be helpful, we ask that you reach out immediately.”

A Tragic Reminder

As Hidalgo County continues to grapple with rising concerns over domestic violence, gun crime, and mental health awareness, this latest tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly lives can be lost.

Local advocacy groups such as Mujeres Unidas and the Hidalgo County Family Crisis Center have already extended their condolences and offered resources for those affected by the traumatic event.

“Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and the entire Donna community,” said Leticia Ramos, spokesperson for Mujeres Unidas. “In times of grief, it’s important we come together to support one another and to encourage peaceful conflict resolution.”

What Comes Next

As the investigation unfolds, the sheriff’s office is expected to release more details about the identities of the victims and the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Autopsy results and forensic evidence will likely play a critical role in determining whether this was an isolated act of violence or part of a larger criminal pattern.
