Deadly Shooting in Camden Claims Life of 29-Year-Old Man, Investigation Underway

Camden, NJ — October 20, 2025
A deadly shooting that occurred in broad daylight over the weekend has left the Camden community shaken, as authorities work tirelessly to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. According to an official statement from Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez, a 29-year-old man lost his life Saturday afternoon in what is now being investigated as a homicide.

At approximately 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, officers from the Camden County Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the 1100 block of Carl Miller Boulevard, located in the city’s Liberty Park neighborhood. Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement discovered a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim, later identified as Bruce Dixon, 29, of Camden, was found lying unresponsive on the sidewalk outside a row of townhouses.

Emergency medical personnel arrived shortly after and began life-saving measures. Dixon was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Residents in the area described the afternoon as “chaotic and terrifying,” with some saying they heard several loud gunshots before seeing people running. One neighbor, who requested anonymity out of fear of retaliation, said, “It sounded like five or six shots. Then I saw people scattering. When I looked out the window, I saw someone on the ground.”

Prosecutor MacAulay expressed her condolences to the victim’s family and assured the public that the investigation is ongoing and remains a top priority. “We are working closely with our law enforcement partners to determine who is responsible for this senseless act of violence,” she said. “We encourage anyone with information to come forward. No piece of information is too small.”

Police Chief Rodriguez echoed the Prosecutor’s statement, emphasizing the department’s commitment to finding those responsible and ensuring justice for the victim and his loved ones.

“This incident is a tragic reminder of the gun violence that continues to impact our communities,” said Chief Rodriguez. “Our detectives are working around the clock, pursuing all leads. We ask the public for their assistance—any video footage, witness accounts, or tips can help bring resolution to this case.”

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Camden County Police Department are jointly handling the investigation. As of Monday morning, no arrests have been made, and officials have not released any details regarding possible suspects or a motive. Authorities have not confirmed whether Dixon was the intended target or if the shooting was random.

The incident marks yet another case of gun violence in Camden this year, a city that has made strides in recent years to reduce crime but still grapples with the lingering effects of poverty, systemic inequality, and community trauma.

Local advocacy groups have renewed calls for increased investment in violence prevention initiatives and community outreach in the wake of the shooting.

“Every life lost is a blow to this city,” said Sherry Thomas, director of Camden Peace Network, a grassroots anti-violence organization. “We cannot police our way out of this crisis alone. We need more resources for mental health, education, job training, and mentorship. Our young people need hope and opportunity.”

Bruce Dixon’s family has yet to release a public statement, but friends on social media have expressed shock and grief over his untimely death. Posts describe Dixon as a quiet, respectful young man who had recently talked about starting a small business.
