Cookeville Community Mourns the Tragic Loss of 34-Year-Old Shawn Torres Following Fatal Stabbing

Torres was fatally stabbed in the early hours of Saturday, October 18, 2025, in what authorities are calling a “senseless and deeply tragic act of violence.”
According to the Cookeville Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing at approximately 2:14 a.m. on Miller Avenue, a typically quiet residential area just blocks from downtown. Upon arrival, they found Torres suffering from multiple stab wounds. Emergency responders administered first aid at the scene before transporting him to Cookeville Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police quickly secured the scene and began canvassing the area for witnesses. Within hours, one individual was taken into custody for questioning.
