Atlanta Mourns the Tragic Loss of 21-Year-Old Damari Xavien Jordan in Apparent Road Rage Shooting on I-75
October 20, 2025 | Atlanta, GA — Heartbreak and outrage ripple across Atlanta as the community mourns the devastating and untimely death of Damari Xavien Jordan, a 21-year-old whose life was senselessly cut short in an act of violence that has left loved ones and city residents searching for answers.
According to investigators with the Atlanta Police Department (APD) and Georgia State Patrol, Damari was found deceased on the northbound lanes of Interstate 75, near Northside Drive NW, late Saturday night, October 18. Authorities were dispatched to the scene around 11:50 p.m., after multiple 911 callers reported a vehicle stopped on the shoulder and what appeared to be a man slumped behind the wheel.
When officers arrived, they discovered Damari suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical responders. The vehicle, a gray Honda Accord registered in his name, had visible damage believed to be related to the shooting. Early findings suggest the tragic incident may have stemmed from a road rage altercation that escalated into deadly violence.
As of Monday afternoon, no arrests have been made, and the APD’s Homicide Unit is actively seeking witnesses and dashcam footage from other drivers who may have been in the area at the time of the incident. Investigators have not publicly identified a suspect or provided details on what may have led to the confrontation.
“He Had His Whole Life Ahead of Him”
Damari Xavien Jordan was more than just a name in a police report. To his family and friends, he was a source of joy, laughter, and limitless potential. A recent graduate of Atlanta Technical College, Damari had been working in the IT field and had dreams of starting his own tech company one day. He was known for his intelligence, his work ethic, and his kindness — qualities that left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed his path.
“He was a good kid — respectful, humble, always smiling,” said his mother, Latasha Jordan, during a tearful interview outside their Southwest Atlanta home. “He didn’t deserve this. He had plans. He had a future. Someone took all of that away.”
Family members shared that Damari was driving home from a friend’s birthday gathering when the shooting occurred. Text messages sent just minutes before his death showed no indication of trouble. Now, the family is pleading for anyone with information to come forward and help bring justice for the young man they called “a gentle soul with a brilliant mind.”
A City in Shock, A Community in Mourning
The killing has reignited urgent conversations across Atlanta about road rage, gun violence, and the growing number of fatal incidents happening on highways. According to local data, metro Atlanta has seen a troubling increase in road rage shootings over the past two years — many of them ending in tragedy.
“We are devastated by yet another senseless act of gun violence,” said Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens in a statement issued Monday. “Our hearts go out to the family of Damari Jordan. The city will not rest until those responsible are held accountable. We urge the public to assist our investigators in any way possible.”
Local activists and community organizations are also calling for increased public awareness and legislative action to address the crisis of road rage and firearms in urban traffic.
“This could have happened to anyone’s son,” said Trina Wallace, director of the nonprofit “Voices for Peace ATL.” “We need to push for stricter enforcement, better driver education, and most importantly, to de-escalate our culture of conflict. No one should die on their way home.”
A Vigil for Damari
In honor of Damari’s life, a candlelight vigil is being organized by his family and friends for Wednesday, October 22, at 7:00 p.m., at Mozley Park, a place where Damari often went to unwind and reflect. Community members are invited to bring candles, flowers, and messages of love to celebrate a life gone far too soon.
“He loved that park,” said childhood friend Kenny Riles. “We used to sit on the benches for hours, talking about our dreams, our futures. Now I’ll be there lighting a candle for him instead.”
Seeking Justice
The Atlanta Police Department is urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity on I-75 northbound near Northside Drive NW between 11:30 p.m. and midnight on Saturday to come forward. Dashcam footage, even from passing vehicles that may not have seen the incident directly, could prove critical in identifying a suspect.
Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477) or online at www.crimestoppersatlanta.org. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
Final Arrangements and Legacy
Funeral services for Damari Xavien Jordan are being arranged by Willie A. Watkins Funeral Home, with a public memorial scheduled for Saturday, October 25, at 1:00 p.m. at Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church. His family is requesting donations to a memorial scholarship fund being created in Damari’s name to support young Black men pursuing careers in technology.
Damari Xavien Jordan is survived by his mother Latasha, his younger sister Milan, his grandparents, and an extended family and community who are now mourning the loss of a bright light extinguished far too soon.
“We won’t rest until we know what happened,” his mother said. “But more than anything, we want people to remember who Damari was — not just how he died. He was love. He was promise. And he was ours.”
