ATLANTA MOURNS THE LOSS OF BELOVED COMMUNITY FIGURE BOOTY GREEN

“A Light in the City Has Gone Out, But His Legacy Will Shine Forever”

The city of Atlanta, Georgia is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Booty Green, a cherished friend, devoted family member, and unforgettable presence whose passing has left a deep and irreplaceable void in the lives of all who knew him. Affectionately known by many as “BGreen,” Booty was more than just a local figure — he was a force of love, joy, and unity in his community.

With a personality as big as his heart, Booty Green was known throughout Atlanta for his infectious laughter, warm spirit, and unwavering kindness. Whether greeting neighbors with a smile, supporting local causes, or simply lighting up a room with his presence, Booty left a mark everywhere he went. His sudden passing has prompted an outpouring of grief and reflection across social media and in the streets he once walked daily — a testament to the many lives he touched.

“Booty was love in human form,” said family friend and local pastor Rev. Marcus Taylor. “He was the kind of person who made you feel like family the first time you met him.”

A Man of the People

Booty Green was deeply rooted in Atlanta’s cultural and community fabric. Though never one to seek the spotlight, his presence was always felt. He was a regular at community events, block parties, church gatherings, and youth mentoring programs. Many remember him as the “unofficial mayor” of his neighborhood — a man who knew everyone’s name, remembered everyone’s birthday, and always had a word of encouragement or a good joke ready.

Young people in particular gravitated toward Booty, drawn by his charisma and realness. He was a mentor, a motivator, and often a second father to many who needed one.

“Booty believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself,” said 23-year-old Terrence Williams, who credits Booty’s support with helping him graduate high school. “He didn’t judge. He just showed up, and he stayed.”

An Outpouring of Love

Since news of his passing broke, the hashtag #BGreen has trended locally on social media, with friends, family, and community leaders sharing stories, photos, and memories of a man who gave so much of himself to others.

“Atlanta lost a real one,” read one post. “There will never be another like Booty Green. #BGreenForever”

“The city feels different without him. The laughter is quieter. The hugs aren’t as warm. Rest in peace, King. You were one of one.”

Local businesses, churches, and youth centers have held small vigils and tributes in his honor. At the corner of Joseph E. Boone Blvd and Sunset Avenue, a growing memorial now stands — candles, flowers, handwritten notes, and a large photo of Booty smiling, surrounded by the words: “Thank you for loving us.”

Remembered by Family and Friends

Booty Green is survived by his children, grandchildren, siblings, and a large extended family. His loved ones describe him as a pillar of strength, the heart of the family, and someone whose joy was contagious.

“My uncle Booty was one of the realest people you’d ever meet,” said his niece, Latoya Green. “He taught us to stand tall, laugh loud, and love big.”

Though the cause of death has not been publicly disclosed, the family has shared their gratitude for the overwhelming support and has asked for continued prayers during this time of deep mourning.

In an official statement, the family wrote:

“Booty Green was a father, a brother, a friend, and a beacon of love in a world that often feels cold. We will miss his voice, his laugh, and his incredible spirit. While we grieve, we also celebrate a life lived fully, loudly, and with endless love.”

Celebration of Life Planned

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 19, at Friendship Baptist Church in Southwest Atlanta, followed by a community repast. Attendees are encouraged to wear green in his honor, a color that came to symbolize his energy, growth, and presence — and to share their favorite memory of Booty during an open tribute segment.

The service is expected to draw hundreds from across Atlanta and beyond — a reflection of just how far his reach truly went.
