Suspects Identified in Wiregrass Commons Mall Shooting — One in Custody, One at Large
DOTHAN, AL (October 13, 2025) — A terrifying scene unfolded at Wiregrass Commons Mall over the weekend, as an exchange of gunfire inside a barber shop left one man critically injured and authorities scrambling to track down suspects. In a significant development, the Dothan Police Department has identified two individuals connected to the shooting, one of whom is now facing multiple felony charges.
The incident occurred on Saturday, October 12, just before 4:00 p.m., prompting a swift and coordinated response from Dothan Police, Houston County Sheriff’s Office, and other law enforcement agencies. Initial reports described an active shooter situation, which was quickly upgraded to a gunshot victim in need of immediate medical attention.
Chaos in the Mall
According to Lt. Scott Owens, officers were dispatched to the mall following reports of gunfire inside Not Just Cuts, a popular barber shop located near the food court. Upon arrival, officers located an injured individual suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and began administering emergency aid until Dothan Fire Department paramedics arrived on scene.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was transported to a local hospital, where they remain in critical condition as of Monday morning.
What Police Discovered
Following a thorough preliminary investigation, authorities have pieced together a more complete picture of the dramatic shootout that left shoppers and employees fleeing for cover.
According to Dothan Police, the shooting began after three individuals entered Not Just Cuts, where a man was sitting in a barber chair receiving a haircut. One of the men — now identified as Korion Michael Salter, 20, of Dothan — began making threats and brandishing a firearm. In response, the man in the chair pulled out his own weapon, and a gunfight ensued inside the business.
During the exchange, Salter was shot multiple times. Another suspect, Sharier AlQuan Caesar, 25, of Greenville, North Carolina, also reportedly fired his weapon toward the individual in the barber chair.
After the shots were fired, the man in the chair retreated to a back room and remained hidden until officers arrived. He has since cooperated fully with investigators, providing key details about what occurred. Authorities have not stated whether he will face any charges, though they emphasized his right to self-defense is under review.
Charges Filed, Suspect at Large
As of Monday morning, Sharier Caesar has been officially charged with:
-
Attempted Murder
-
Shooting into an Occupied Building
He is currently wanted by the Dothan Police Department and is considered armed and dangerous. Police are urging the public to come forward with any information on Caesar’s whereabouts. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (334) 793-7000.
Korion Salter, who was seriously wounded in the shootout, is still being treated at a local hospital. Authorities say charges are likely pending his recovery, including potential counts of aggravated assault, attempted murder, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Community Shocked by Violence
Saturday’s shooting sent waves of fear throughout the mall as customers and employees scrambled for safety. Stores went into lockdown mode, and mall security worked closely with police to evacuate and secure the premises.
“It was chaos — people were running, hiding, calling loved ones,” said one eyewitness who was shopping with her children at the time. “You don’t expect something like this to happen in broad daylight, in a mall.”
No other injuries were reported, and police confirmed that no bystanders were struck during the gunfire exchange — a small mercy in what could have become a much more catastrophic event.
Investigation Ongoing
While two of the three suspects involved have been identified, police are still working to determine the identity of the third individual who entered the barber shop with Salter and Caesar. That person’s role in the incident remains unclear, and authorities have not confirmed whether they discharged a weapon or simply fled the scene.
“This is still a very active investigation,” said Lt. Owens. “We are following up on multiple leads and surveillance footage from inside the mall. We will not rest until all involved are held accountable.”
Police are also reviewing whether the shooting was connected to previous disputes or if it was part of a targeted attack.
Public Urged to Remain Vigilant
Dothan Police are encouraging anyone who was at the mall on Saturday and may have seen or recorded anything to come forward, especially those who may have cell phone videos or witnessed the suspects fleeing the scene.
“This type of brazen violence in a public place will not be tolerated,” Lt. Owens added. “We are grateful no innocent bystanders were injured, and we will do everything we can to prevent further incidents like this.”
What’s Next
With one suspect hospitalized and another on the run, the search continues. The community is on edge, but hopeful that justice will soon be served.
A spokesperson for Wiregrass Commons Mall confirmed that the mall reopened on Sunday under increased security, including additional patrols and off-duty police presence.
