DUNCAN, SC — Community Mourns the Tragic Loss of Le’moriell Williams in Early Morning Crash
“He was the light in every room — and now that light is gone too soon.”
October 12, 2025 | Duncan, South Carolina — The community of Duncan is reeling from the sudden and tragic loss of Le’moriell Williams, a 42-year-old father, friend, and beloved resident who died in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), the accident occurred at approximately 2:40 a.m. on SC Highway 101 near Old Woodruff Road in Spartanburg County. Troopers reported that Williams was driving southbound when his vehicle veered off the right side of the highway, struck a culvert, and overturned.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after receiving 911 calls from nearby residents who heard the impact. Williams was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to SCHP, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office later confirmed the identity of the victim as Le’moriell D. Williams. An autopsy has been scheduled, though authorities have not released further details pending investigation.
A Sudden Loss Felt Across the Community
For those who knew him, Le’moriell Williams was far more than just a name in a traffic report. He was a fixture in Duncan — a man known for his bright smile, generous spirit, and the kind of laughter that could lighten the darkest room. His death has sent shockwaves through his family, friends, and the wider Upstate community.
“Le’moriell was the type of person who showed up for everybody,” said longtime friend and coworker Rodney Benson. “You needed help moving? He was there. You were going through something? He was the first to check in. Now, we’re the ones trying to figure out how to move on without him.”
Friends and family gathered Sunday evening near the crash site to leave flowers, light candles, and share memories. What began as a quiet, somber vigil quickly grew into a heartfelt celebration of the life Le’moriell lived — and the lives he touched.
“He wasn’t just my brother,” said Angela Williams, holding back tears. “He was my best friend. He loved hard, he laughed loud, and he lived with so much heart. This doesn’t feel real.”
Remembering Le’moriell: A Life of Kindness and Loyalty
Born and raised in Spartanburg County, Le’moriell Williams was a proud native son who never forgot his roots. A graduate of Byrnes High School, he was known for his athleticism during his younger years and carried that same determination into his adult life — working in logistics and helping support his family.
He was also a devoted father of two, and loved nothing more than spending weekends with his kids, grilling out in the backyard or cheering on his favorite football team, the Carolina Panthers.
“Family came first for Le’moriell,” said his cousin Tamika. “He lived for his children. Everything he did was to give them a better life.”
He was also active in local church life and occasionally volunteered at food drives and clothing giveaways. Friends recall him being the one to organize cookouts, lend his car to a neighbor in need, or offer his last dollar without hesitation.
“He wasn’t perfect — none of us are — but he was genuine,” said friend Caleb Monroe. “And in a world full of fake, that’s rare.”
Investigation Ongoing
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Preliminary assessments indicate no foul play or other vehicles were involved, but toxicology results and additional data from the crash scene are still pending.
Officials are also reminding the public of the importance of seatbelt safety, particularly during late-night and early morning hours when visibility is low and drowsy driving risks are high.
Community Support and Memorial Plans
In the wake of the tragedy, the Williams family has received an outpouring of love and support from the Duncan community and beyond. A GoFundMe page has been created to assist with funeral costs and provide financial support for Le’moriell’s children, who now face life without their father.
Plans for a memorial service and celebration of life are currently being arranged. The family says they intend to honor him in a way that reflects his joy, generosity, and enduring impact.
