Remembering Jason Elola: Beloved Father of Nine Taken Too Soon

In the quiet suburban neighbourhoods of the Bay Area, tragedy struck on a seemingly ordinary Saturday evening. Jason Elola, 49, a devoted father of nine, husband, grandfather of four and community‑pillar, died as a result of what law enforcement is describing as a road‑rage incident in unincorporated Castro Valley, California.

The Incident

The timeline, as pieced together by investigators from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) and the California Highway Patrol (CHP), begins on Saturday evening (November 8, 2025) at about 7:40 p.m. near the intersection of Wilbeam and Norbridge Avenues in Castro Valley.

Mr. Elola and his family had been celebrating his son’s 18th birthday with a trip to San Francisco, and on the way home they made a stop for ice cream at a favourite spot—in what began as a happy outing ended in horror

According to his wife, Gabrielle, the family’s vehicle was struck from behind by a dark‑colored SUV as they exited the freeway ramp. She says that her husband got out of the car to protect their young daughters (a 5‑year‑old and a 5‑month‑old) and to see what had happened.

What followed was a confrontation between Mr. Elola and the other driver, identified by authorities as 37‑year‑old Martin W. Davis Jr.. According to the sheriff’s office, a fight ensued after the collision. Davis initially left the scene, but later contacted CHP and returned at their instruction. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and booked into Santa Rita Jail without bail.

Investigators have asked for any witnesses or dash‑cam footage from that area around the Wilbeam/Norbridge corridor to come forward, as they reconstruct the sequence of events.

The Man He Was

Jason was not just a father; he was a provider, an entrepreneur and a man with strong roots in his community. Relatives and friends describe him as “the person you could count on if you needed him.”

He ran a pumpkin patch, a Christmas‑tree lot, and a food‑truck venue in Tracy, California, where he lived with his wife Gabrielle and the family of nine children. His eldest son Angel said his father was “the nicest, most inviting, loving man that anyone ever knew … a legacy for nine kids and four grandkids and many more to come.”

After his death, about 200 people gathered at his food‑truck venue, Street Eats 209, to hold a vigil, light candles, and support the family.

The Family’s Loss and Their Plea

For Gabrielle and the nine children—among them very young daughters—this is immeasurable grief. “This person didn’t have to take my husband… We’re never going to get him back,” Gabrielle said.

The family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral and living costs in the wake of this tragedy.

They are also urging anyone who witnessed the incident—particularly the crash and subsequent confrontation—to come forward. Witnesses may hold key dash‑cam or cellphone footage that could clarify how events unfolded.

Legal and Investigative Status

At present, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office’s Crimes Against Persons unit is leading the investigation, and the case has been classified as a homicide investigation. Authorities have not yet released definitive details about what exactly caused Mr. Elola’s fatal injuries. His son believes a head injury may have been the cause, but the coroner’s report is pending.

The suspect, Martin Davis Jr., remains in custody on suspicion of murder, and prosecutors will review the investigation and evidence for possible charges.

A Cautionary Note

The Elola family hopes their pain serves as a caution to others: what begins as a minor traffic incident, a moment of frustration, a “road‑rage” scenario, can escalate in seconds—and change lives irrevocably. “Something can happen so quick, and it can impact families more than you’ll ever know,” Angel said.
