BREAKING: OSU Dorm Shooting Leaves Multiple Injured, Police Investigating
Stillwater, OK – October 19, 2025 — The Oklahoma State University (OSU) Police Department is actively investigating a shooting that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning at Carreker East, a residential dormitory on campus. The incident, which took place around 3:40 a.m., has left multiple individuals injured, including at least one confirmed OSU student.
According to OSU Chief of Police Michael Beckner, all victims are currently receiving medical treatment at hospitals in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The exact number of victims has not yet been released, and the severity of their injuries remains unclear.
Law enforcement officials have cordoned off the area surrounding Carreker East and are urging anyone who does not live in the residence hall to stay away as the investigation continues.
“There is no ongoing threat to the campus community at this time,” Chief Beckner assured during a brief press conference held Sunday morning. “We believe this was an isolated incident that occurred following a large, private off-campus gathering.”
Preliminary reports indicate that a sizable party was held at an off-campus location on Saturday night. Following the party’s dispersal, some attendees returned to the Carreker East dorm, where an altercation escalated into gunfire. Authorities were called to the scene shortly after 3:40 a.m. and discovered multiple injured individuals.
OSU officials have not released the identities of the victims, citing privacy concerns and the ongoing nature of the investigation. It is also not yet known whether the shooter or shooters are among those injured, in custody, or still at large.
Police are currently interviewing witnesses and reviewing security camera footage in and around the Carreker East residence hall to piece together the timeline of events.
The university released a brief statement on social media early Sunday:
“We are aware of an incident involving multiple injuries at Carreker East. Law enforcement is on scene and the investigation is underway. We urge students to remain calm and avoid the area if not residing in the building. Counseling resources are available for those affected.”
As the community reels from the shock of the incident, OSU has made mental health support available through campus services. Counseling staff have been stationed at nearby residential halls and are offering both group and individual support for students.
Classes are expected to proceed as scheduled on Monday, though university officials stated they will continue to assess the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
Students, faculty, and parents have taken to social media to express concern, demand answers, and call for increased campus security in light of the violence. Many are questioning how access to dormitories is being managed, and what measures can be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This shooting marks a rare instance of gun violence on OSU’s Stillwater campus, which has historically maintained a strong reputation for safety. The last major campus safety incident involving weapons occurred more than a decade ago.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. Anonymous tips can be submitted via OSU Police’s campus safety portal or by calling 405-744-6523.
