THIRD ARREST MADE IN DOWNTOWN MONTGOMERY MASS SHOOTING: 19-YEAR-OLD CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER

The Montgomery Police Department (MPD) has announced a third arrest in connection with the tragic mass shooting that occurred on October 4th in downtown Montgomery. Authorities confirmed Thursday that 19-year-old Javorick Whiting has been taken into custody and charged with one count of attempted murder in the wake of the violent outbreak that left two people dead and twelve others wounded.
The incident, which unfolded late in the evening near a crowded nightlife district, sent shockwaves through the community and sparked a multi-agency investigation. It marked one of the most violent mass shootings in Montgomery’s recent history, highlighting ongoing concerns about gun violence and public safety in urban centers.
DETAILS OF THE ARREST
According to MPD spokesperson Lt. Raymond Carson, Whiting was arrested without incident following a coordinated operation involving local law enforcement and federal partners. Investigators say evidence collected over the past two weeks—including surveillance footage, forensic data, and witness interviews—led authorities to Whiting’s involvement in the chaotic scene.
He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Detention Facility. No bond has been set as of Thursday afternoon.
“Detectives have worked tirelessly since the night of October 4th to piece together the events of that night and identify everyone responsible,” Lt. Carson said during a Thursday press briefing. “The arrest of Mr. Whiting is another significant step forward in our pursuit of justice for the victims and their families.”
THE SHOOTING: A NIGHT OF TRAGEDY
The mass shooting took place just after 10:30 p.m. on October 4th near Commerce Street, an area typically bustling with weekend crowds. Eyewitnesses reported a sudden eruption of gunfire following an apparent altercation involving multiple individuals. Panic quickly spread through the area as people scrambled for cover.
Two people—ages 24 and 27—were pronounced dead at the scene. Twelve others sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical. Emergency responders described a chaotic and heartbreaking scene, with first responders performing CPR and triage in the street while others tried to secure the area.
So far, the identities of the deceased have not been officially released, pending notification of next of kin. Several victims remain hospitalized, with at least two reportedly in critical condition.

Whiting is now the third individual arrested in connection with the shooting. Authorities previously arrested 20-year-old Lamarcus Daniels and 22-year-old Deondre Hall in the days immediately following the incident. Daniels faces two counts of capital murder and four counts of attempted murder, while Hall has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and tampering with evidence.
MPD has not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests as the investigation continues. Officials believe more individuals may have been involved or have knowledge of the events leading up to the shooting.
“We want to be very clear: this investigation is active and ongoing,” Carson emphasized. “We urge anyone who was present that night, or who has any information, no matter how small, to come forward. Your cooperation could be critical in bringing all responsible parties to justice.”

The tragedy has left Montgomery residents grappling with grief and outrage. Community leaders, activists, and elected officials have voiced strong condemnation of the violence and have renewed calls for meaningful action on gun violence prevention and youth intervention programs.
A candlelight vigil held earlier this week in Riverfront Park drew hundreds of mourners, including friends and family members of the victims. Local clergy offered prayers and comfort, while community organizers demanded change.
