Brigham City Police Identify Woman Found Deceased Along Roadway in April
Brigham City, UT — The Brigham City Police Department has identified the woman whose body was found along a roadway on April 2, 2025. The deceased has been confirmed as 42-year-old Brandy M. Hickey, according to an official police statement released this week.
The discovery initially baffled investigators, as the remains were found in such an advanced state of decomposition that determining even the victim’s sex proved challenging. Early efforts to identify the woman included the release of a photo depicting a distinctive heart-shaped tattoo found on the body, shared publicly in hopes of generating leads. Despite the outreach, no new information emerged at that time.
Detectives then pursued more definitive forensic methods, sending samples of the remains to an independent laboratory for DNA analysis. The resulting profile was entered into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), a national database of DNA profiles. This search led to a successful match, confirming the identity as Brandy M. Hickey.
Brandy Hickey had reportedly been living in the St. George area in southern Utah and was known to have ties to Salt Lake City. The Brigham City Police have notified her family of the identification. Authorities are now working to piece together her movements and relationships prior to her disappearance, which last had documented contact in 2021.
“The Brigham City Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to seeking justice for Brandy and her loved ones,” said the department in a statement. The investigation is ongoing, and police have confirmed the case is being treated as a homicide.
The police department also issued a heartfelt message to the community: “We would like to emphasize that every member of our community has value, and it is unacceptable for anyone to be harmed and discarded in such a callous and inhumane manner.”
Officials are urging anyone with information related to Brandy Hickey’s disappearance or death to come forward, assuring that all tips will be treated confidentially. Detectives are actively interviewing acquaintances, family members, and others who may shed light on her final years.
Brigham City, a community of approximately 19,000 residents, has been shaken by the grim discovery. Local leaders have expressed their support for law enforcement and the victim’s family, stressing the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in solving violent crimes.
This case highlights the challenges faced by investigators in identifying and solving crimes involving unidentified remains, especially when significant time has passed and physical evidence has deteriorated. The use of DNA technology proved crucial in bringing a name and story back to a victim who had previously been anonymous.
As the investigation continues, Brigham City Police remain committed to bringing justice and closure for Brandy Hickey and her family. They have promised to update the public as new information becomes available.
