Erwin, age 82, of Troy, Ohio, who passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025 at Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, beloved father, cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, and loyal friend to many, Ron’s legacy is one of quiet strength, selfless service, deep faith, and unwavering love.

Born on May 6, 1943, in Champaign County, Ohio, Ron was the son of the late William E. and Asenath (Barger) Erwin. He was part of a strong, close-knit family, values he carried with him throughout his life and passed on to the generations that followed.

A Life Built on Love and Faith

Ron married the love of his life, Kathie L. (Hitchcock) Erwin, and the two shared a remarkable 56 years of marriage. Their partnership was built on enduring love, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to family. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering support—qualities that became the foundation of the Erwin family.

Ron was a dedicated and loving father to Matthew E. Erwin (Julie Sillman) of Troy, Lisa Smiley (Dave) of Ft. Myers, FL, and Shelley Erwin of Troy. He took immense pride in his children and the lives they built, always offering guidance and encouragement with humility and grace.

His role as a grandfather brought him great joy. He adored his grandchildren: Joshua (Kirsten) Smiley of Hermitage, TN, Hannah (Mitch) Woodruff of Marysville, Zachariah Erwin, and Braedon Erwin, both of Troy. Ron also had the blessing of knowing and loving his great-grandchildren: Leah Smiley and Beau Smiley of Hermitage, and Waylon Woodruff of Marysville, whose energy and innocence brought new light into his later years.

A Legacy of Kindness and Service

Ron lived a life marked by quiet service and integrity. He believed in hard work, honesty, and treating others with kindness. Whether it was through his work, his church, or simply being there for a friend or neighbor in need, Ron lived his values every day.

He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life—family dinners, long talks on the porch, a good book, and time spent outdoors. Those who knew him well will remember his sharp mind, steady demeanor, gentle humor, and his deep love for animals—especially his faithful furry companion, Roman, who rarely left his side.

Ron’s bond with his twin brother, Donald J. Erwin (Barbara) of Urbana, was a lifelong treasure. The two shared a connection that only twins can know, supporting each other through every chapter of life. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Nancy Erwin of Bellefontaine, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Erwin, his sister, Marvalene Kizer, and his daughter-in-law, Kimberly Erwin—loved ones whose memories he held close and whose spirits no doubt welcomed him home.

A Final Farewell

Though Ron’s time on earth has come to an end, his legacy will continue in the lives he shaped and the love he gave so freely. His family, friends, and community have lost a great man—steady, kind, humble, and generous. But in that loss, there is also deep gratitude for having known him.
